12/21/2015

(KNZA)--Unemployment was down in more area northeast Kansas counties in November.

According to the latest figures from the Kansas Department of Labor, Nemaha County was the only area county to see an increase in it’s unemployment rate last month, with the rate up one-tenth of a percent to 2.1.

Despite the slight increase, Nemaha County continued to have the lowest unemployment rate among area counties, while Atchison County continued to have the highest at 5.1 percent.

Elsewhere, Brown County’s unemployment rate in November was 3.3 percent; Doniphan, 3.5 percent; Jackson, 2.8 percent; Jefferson, 3.3 percent; Leavenworth, 3.8 percent; Marshall, 2.5 percent and Pottawatomie, 2.8 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate was 4 percent in November—the lowest level in more than 14 years.

Kansas Secretary of Labor Lana Gordon says more than 10-tousand people returned to the labor force in November, resulting in a record number of employed people in the state.
