12/15/2015

Superintendent Tim Heckinlively

(KLZA)-- Falls City School Superintendent Tim Heckinlively reviewed the new AQuESTT Final Classification report with the District 56 Board of Education Monday night. The new state accountability results were released earlier this month.

Heckinlively said you always hope for as high a score as possible. He says in the coming years the School District wants to improve on the overall scored of 2, on a 4-point system.

The Accountability for a Quality Education System Today and Tomorrow were classified as excellent, great, good or needs improvement. The Falls City School District,  like a majority of the schools in Nebraska, scored a 2, which equates to Good.  There is no rounding of the numbers. The overall score for District 56 was 2.75.

Only 5 school districts of approximately 250 in the state achieved an Excellent rating or a score of 4.

78% of Falls City Public School students meet or exceed the state reading standards, scoring a 3 of a possible 4. In mathematics the scores was down slightly to 72% scoring a 2. There was also a slight decrease in the overall science score.

In his report to the Board, Heckinlively said an emphasis on math and science will continue as the achievement bar is raised. Math and science remain essential skills in the workplace and at college, and District 56 demands strong skills in these areas.
