SEDHD Offering Free Radon Test Kits in SE Nebraska
12/14/2015

(KLZA)--  Radon is a colorless, odorless, cancer-causing gas that is found in 50% of the homes in Nebraska with the percentage likely higher in Southeast Nebraska. Southeast District Health Department Director Kevin Cluskey explains Southeast Nebraska is a high concentration area for radon occurrences in family homes.

Radon is one of the main causes of lung cancer in non-smokers. SEDHD is offering free radon test kits Southeast Nebraska residents in an effort to have people find out if their home has a problem.

The testing process takes 3 – 7 days.  You simply seal up the test kit and place it in the mail and a few days later you can find out the results.

If your test comes back positive for radon it is recommended your home be mitigated by a radon professional to get these dangerous gasses out of your home, making it safer to live in.

The radon test kits are being handed out during the Southeast District Health Department Immunization clinics.  You may also call the department toll free at 877-777-0424.  You can also stop by the office in Auburn at 2511 Schneider Avenue which is the south side of the Crestview Shopping Center parking lot.

For more information about radon test kits go to the Southeast District Health Department website sedhd.org.
