Claim of Crime Leads To Fake Meth Then Arrest
12/01/2015

Chad Gorrell Jr.

(KAIR)--Atchison police say an Atchison man, who allegedly claimed to be selling methamphetamine, was selling something quite different; and, because of his dubious product, is arrested not for selling the drug but for pretending to.

Police Chief Mike Wilson says the investigation that led to the arrest of Chad Gorrell, Junior, began for entirely different motives, launched after the 21-year-old told police he had been the victim of a robbery and assault. “There was an investigation over the weekend that actually began as an assault case,” Wilson tells MSC News. “It actually led us to investigate a case that would occurred in the 300 block of north 8th on Saturday evening. Based on that investigation, we have taken into custody Gorrell, and it involves distribution of a simulated controlled substance. In fact, an additional charge with that is within 1,000 feet of a school, specifically the Alternative School at 8th and Santa Fe.”

Wilson says Gorrell suffereed injuries that required hospital treatment, but it's not believed that he was a victim as he had described to police.

The alleged fake meth is currently undergoing testing, with police unable to immediately say what the substance is.

Gorrell, following his arrest, was booked into the Atchison County Jail where, at last check, he remained held on a bond of $10,000.
