(KAIR)--An Atchison man is facing a number of criminal charges following his arrest last week.
Police Chief Mike Wilson says 32-year-old Shane Gage was taken into custody Thursday in the 400 block of U.S. Highway 59. “He was found at the time of his arrest to be in possession of a firearm, a handgun, which was illegal in his situation based on his criminal history,” Wilson tells MSC News. “That handgun had the serial numbers defaced so he also faces a charge of defacing the numbers on that gun.”
Wilson says the search for Gage began as part of an investigation launched Tuesday after a man reported he had been assaulted, battered and threatened. “Our officers responded to a disturbance call in the 1400 block of South 8th. There, a 25-year-old male victim reported being the victim of assault and battery and a criminal threat.”
Gage, who was booked into the Atchison County Jail, is facing charges of criminal possession of a firearm, defacing identification numbers on a firearm, criminal threat, assault, battery, disorderly conduct, driving while suspended, and violating parole.
