Atchison City, County Agree To Work Together On Road
11/18/2015

(KAIR)--Officials with both the city and county of Atchison have agreed to work together to finish improving River Road.

City and County Commissioners discussed the agreement during a joint meeting held Monday evening. City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont says the city does need some help from the county to complete their portion of the road saying “it's a big budget number, it's a lot of materials, it's a type of work that we really don't have the equipment to do ourselves or in house, and then lastly, it's a road that serves a more rural population...it's traditionally the type of road the county would maintain anyway. It's just when Benedictine got annexed, it's an adjacent road to that property technically even though it's along a bluff, so it came under our  responsibility....but it would be fair to say that we are ill equipped to handle maintenance of that road.”

Pregont says the he and County Road and Bridge Superintendent Seth Howard will meet  to put together a plan for the project, that they will present to the Commissioners during the next joint meeting, scheduled for January.
