Falls City Electric System Upgrades Approved
11/18/2015

(KLZA)-- The Falls City Council has approved a recommendation by the Board of Public Works for Substation improvements in town.

Utility Superintendent Alan Romine explained the City will be changing out transformers at substations on 21st and 28th Streets. This will allow the entire City to be put in phase. A couple of circuits will be installed which will allow for switching without having to have power out in one part of town.

The approved costs are $132,150 to Jerry’s Electric and  $62,100 for the Harold Scholz Company. Romine said the low bid was not recommended for the transformers to be used.  The low bid was $6,000 less than the one recommended but did not include dimension and warranty when submitted and when the warranty was submitted, was less than the bid accepted.

Councilman John Vaughn asked why the City was bidding out the work instead of having the City Electric Crew do the work. Romine said the local workers are very busy and there will be time sensitive work to be completed in area’s that do not have very good clearance. He also noted a need for special equipment to complete the job the City does not have.

In other business during the Monday night Council meeting, the appointment of Ryan Dorcey as Deputy City Attorney was approved. City Attorney Mike Dunn requested the appointment.  Dorcey graduated from the University Of Nebraska Law School in May and recently started working at the Halbert, Dunn & Halbert Law Firm in Falls City.

A request by Gene Ramer Jr. to build a 30 x 30 metal building at 1723 McLean Street was tabled until neighbors can be consulted.
