(KLZA)-- The Auburn City Council voted 3-2 this week to approve an agreement with JEO Consulting Group for engineering services through the design phase for the long discussed West Waterline Project. Voting against the project were Council members Rick Janssen, Jeff Jenneret. Councilman Shawn Clark was not in attendance so to get a majority vote, Mayor Scott Kudrna joined Council members Katy Billings, Chris Erickson and Tom Clark in casting votes to proceed.
The cost for the engineering services is estimated at around $68,000 with the Community Redevelopment Authority pledging $50,000 toward the cost and hopefully by the time the bill comes due, the CRA will have collected enough tax increment financing funds to pay the entire amount.
The line would serve western Auburn and create a loop to serve approximately 50-percent of the community. Over the years the cost estimate has increased by more than $200,000.
Mayor Scott Kudrna says improved finances for the City will help move the project forward as well as with other projects like new fire trucks.
The Council also heard a preliminary audit report from George Nelson. Nelson noted the improved financial health of the City of Auburn. Nelson commended the City on a 5-year trend of increasing revenues and decreasing expenses.
No action was taken on a funding request for the lights at the Legion Field and action was tabled on the Welcome To Auburn signs.
