(MSC News)--Westar Energy is working to keep its customers safe.
That comes as scam attempts, both by phone and in person, continue to be reported to the energy supplier.
According to a website post by the company, customers have made several reports regarding company employee impersonators. It's not immediately clear what the fake workers are trying to gain.
Westar says anyone legitimately working for the company will carry Westar identification which they will readily show if asked. Many employees also wear shirts or caps bearing the Westar Energy logo.
Fraudulent phone calls also continue to be reported, with someone claiming to be a Westar customer service representative. The caller then attempts to get the customer who answers the phone to provide credit card information and other personal information. The fake employee claims the customer has bounced a check, a past-due bill, or that the customer's meter is defective and might catch on fire.
Westar Energy says that's also a scam, and any suspicious visitors, or callers, should be reported to either 800-383-1183 or local law enforcement.
