Burn Ban Issued For Local Counties

(MSC NEWS)--Continuing strong winds have led to the issuance of a burn ban in Doniphan County. 

The ban will remain in place until Friday. 
 
The county wide burn ban was announced Thursday by Doniphan County Emergency Management Coordinator Julie Meng. 
 
The ban comes as the National Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning for much of the local area Thursday. That means fire dangers are high, due to the extremely high winds across the local region. 
 
Wind gusts upwards of 35 mph are likely throughout the day Thursday.
 
A burn ban was also issued Thursday for Atchison County, effective until further notice. Officials with the county Emergency Management Department cite high winds, low humidity, and dry conditions as reasons for issuing the ban.
