(KAIR)--Wednesday's strong winds are blamed for overturning a semi-tractor trailer in Atchison County, sending the driver to the hospital.
It was reported shortly after 3:00 in the afternoon on U.S. Highway 73, just south of 286th Road, near Lancaster.
Sheriff Jack Laurie says the driver was transported by Atchison County EMS to the Atchison Hospital for the treatment of his injuries.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that the southbound Freightliner rolled onto the driver's side due to the high wind gusts.
The Patrol identifies the driver as 55-year-old Michael Stephens, of De Soto, Kansas.
He was buckled up when the vehicle was blown over.
Prior to the crash, the National Weather Service had issued a wind advisory calling for gusts upwards of 45 mph, that could make highway travel difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
