Editor's note: The following was submitted by Janet Schiable with NAMI Pony Express
Jerry Petering, President of NAMI Pony Express presents David Elsbury, CEO of Kanza Mental Health a check for $2,000.00 to further educate community members in Nemaha and Doniphan Counties by underwriting a Mental Health First Aid Class in each county. Mental Health First Aid is a certified training class available to family members and service employees. This public education program can help communities understand mental illnesses, seek timely intervention and saves lives. Brown County received a grant earlier this year to train MHFA presenters and offer the class to residents of Brown County.
The class will be a 8 hour training session to teach the skills to respond to the signs of mental illness and substance abuse. NAMI Pony Express and KANZA Mental Health are working together to schedule dates in the first half of 2016. NAMI Pony Express will underwrite the class to 30 individuals in each county offering 1 to 2 classes in each county.
More information will be available later this year, but interested individuals can contact David Elsbury at 742-7113 ext. 122 or by email at delsbury@kanzamhgc.org.
