New Seneca Police Officer Hired
10/28/2015

(KMZA)--A new Seneca police officer has been hired.

City Administrator Matt Rehder says the city council’s personnel committee on Friday selected Kendall Grimm, of Sabetha, from among two applicants interviewed for a vacant position.

Rehder says Grimm has served as a Nemaha County reserve officer, and will officially begin his duties after completing the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Hutchinson. Grimm is to enter the Academy on November 30th, and is expected to graduate next March.

The City Council at last week’s meeting agreed in advance to hire the officer selected by the personnel committee.

Meanwhile, the committee is expected to recommend an individual to fill the vacant chief of police position during next week’s Council meeting.  Seven applicants were received for the position, with four selected for interviews.

The chief of police vacancy was created by the resignation of Brent Schulte who ended his nine-years in that position September 25th to take a job as an investigator with the Kansas Lottery.

The police department, which is budgeted for five officers including chief, has been operating with three officers for the last couple of weeks.

The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Department has been helping fill the void.
