Domestic Violence Awareness Organization Still Active
10/23/2015

(KAIR)--DOVES, an organization dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence in several northeast Kansas counties including Atchison, Doniphan, Nemaha, and Brown, has not closed, despite rumors to the contrary.

Executive Director Debbie Duncan says the organization's headquarters did undergo some remodeling, but client services never stopped.

She adds that DOVES still stands ready to assist victims of domestic violence, which, she says, can manifest in many different ways including emotionally, mentally, financially...it's a plethora of things, and rolled into one, is controlling. Once you see that, then it can take many shapes and forms.”

Duncan says DOVES can help clients with whatever is needed recover from a domestic violence situation. “We offer a 24/7 crisis hotline, we offer an emergency shelter, we offer food, transportation, any type of products that they may need...hygiene products, clothing, furniture if available, counseling...we have support groups, and it can either be one on one, or it can be in a group setting. We also go to court, and we do referrals and references as needed.”

Duncan says that DOVES has also established a ninety day after care program, a program offered to those who successfully complete the initial 45-90 day DOVES care plan.
