New Sprinkler to Grow Grass at New Jail
10/21/2015

(KMZA)--A sprinkler system will be added to the east portion of the Nemaha County courthouse grounds and around the new jail.

The County Commission this week approved a bid from Lush Lawn Sprinklers, of Seneca, for the installation of the system at a cost of just over 51-hundred dollars.

The Commission last week accepted a bid from Evergreen Lawns, of Seneca, for the seeding of grass around the new jail and a mat to be put down on the south side of the new facility at a cost of just over 12-hundred dollars.

Sheriff Rich Vernon Monday took Commissioners on a tour of the new jail facility so they could review the progress.

The new 34-bed $4.5 million facility is on track to open by late January of next year.

In other business, County Treasurer Rose Wilhelm came before the Commission to introduce new employee Rebecca Haverkamp.  Haverkamp began work in the Treasurer’s office on October 14th.  She fills the open position left by the resignation of Kelly Schulte.

And Dessie Cox, secretary in the county attorney’s office, presented Commissioners with a letter informing them of her decision to retire effective December 18th.
