Atchison Co Canvasses Votes
10/13/2015
(KAIR)--Vote totals from last week's Special Election to determine whether or not to give the USD 377 school board the authority to raise the district's capital outlay levy are now official.

The Atchison County Commission, meeting as a Canvassing Board Monday, canvassed the votes cast in the election.

County Clerk Pauline Lee says there were just seven provisional ballots cast. A provisional ballot is used to record a vote where there are questions about a given voter's eligibility. The Board approved the counting of five provisional ballots.

The final vote tally, including the provisional votes was 273 in favor  of the increase, and 503 against it.

The district was seeking the authority to raise the current four mill levy up to 8 mills on an annual basis, which is the maximum allowed by state law.
