Atchison Hospital To Hold Health Fair
10/09/2015

(KAIR)--The Atchison Hospital is gearing up for it's annual Best Care Community Health Fair, set to take place this weekend at the Atchison Elementary School.

Hospital Director of Business Health Services, Jennifer Brockhoff says the hospital, as well as several outside agencies will have a variety of booths set up at the fair, including one where you can donate blood. She says “one of the neat things you can do is come out and support our community and give blood. The Community Blood Center is going to be there and you can donate blood all morning long. You can just walk in, you don't need an appointment, and the great thing is, is they are the sole provider of the blood we use at the hospital. So without the Community Blood Center's blood, we would not be able to do some of the things we can do at the hospital, and save some of the lives we can save.”

Brockhoff adds that in order to give blood, you have to be at least 16-years-old and be able to show a photo identification.

Other screenings will be available as well. Brockhoff says “you can get your blood drawn yourself to get your cholesterol and blood glucose done. There is hearing screenings, carotid artery screenings, you can get a resting EKG, you can get your body fat, blood pressure...anything you can really think of, a lot of that is going to be free. The only things that I think you are going to have to pay for is the cholesterol screening is $20, and the flu shots that we have for 36 months and up are $33, and the high dose, which is if you are 65 years or older, is $47."

Hospital Director of Marketing T.C. Roberts says there will also be activities available for kids at the event. “There is an obstacle course, there is the bike rodeo...at the bike rodeo, we are also, if you participate in the bike rodeo, you get a free bike helmet. All the kids that participate in a number of activities, their name goes in for the drawing for a bicycle, and we are giving away a girls bicycle and a boys bicycle.”

The Best Care Community Health Fair is set to take place this morning from 8:00-noon. Everyone is invited to attend.
