(KNZA)--An unnamed stream in Brown County is nameless no more.
The naming comes as Wendell Ganstrom, manager of the Highland Community College Klinefelter Farm, succeeds in seeing the creek that runs through the farm officially designated as Klinefelter Creek.
The name was granted by the United States Board on Geographic Names, and follows what a press release from the college calls “an arduous effort with the U.S. Geological Survey.”
The farm is located east of Hiawatha.
Through Ganstrom's efforts, local donors have provided the funding needed for the purchase of two steel bridges that will span Klinefelter Creek and become part of the trail system Ganstrom created for walkers and cross country runners.
Once the bridges are in place, the college will host a small ceremony recognizing the donors while naming the bridges and celebrating the naming of the creek.
The official notation in the Geographic Names repository includes the history of the farm as a family farm and recognizes that it was donated to the college by John Klinefelter.
