Hearing Warnings Continue for Three Area Lakes
09/25/2015

(KNZA)--Public health warnings continue for three area northeast Kansas lakes due to high levels of toxic blue-green algae.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said Thursday the Hiawatha City Lake, Brown County State Fishing Lake, and Nemaha State Fishing lake are among eight lakes in the state on warning status.

Lakes under a warning status aren’t closed.  However, direct contact with the water by people, pets and livestock is strongly discouraged.

Fish caught in the lakes can be consumed as long as its rinsed with clean water.  However, you should consume only the fillet portion and discarded all other parts.
