(KAIR)--A Leavenworth man, convicted for fraudulently collecting more than $46,000 in government benefits, is going to prison.
The office of U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom says 42-year-old Michael James Munsterman has been sentenced to a year in federal prison on one count of theft of government funds.
Prosecutors says that Munsterman applied for Supplemental Security Income benefits in April 2011, claiming that he had a drug-induced heart condition that kept him from working. However, he failed to reveal that he owned and operated a heating and cooling company that provided him with a substantial income while receiving the benefits.
As part of a plea agreement, Munsterman must also pay restitution to the victim-agencies.
