(KMZA)--The Seneca City Council has accepted a bid for replacement of the curb and gutter along several city streets.
The Council Wednesday evening voted to accept the low bid submitted by J & B Contractors, of Hiawatha, but to restrict the amount of work to be done to the $60,000 the city had budgeted for the project.
The company had submitted a bid of $88,000 for the replacement of more than 18-hundred linear feet of curb and gutter as listed on the bid request. Because the low bid came in higher the amount budgeted, the work will be reduced to the most needed areas.
It was among two bids received. Bryant and Bryant, of Halstead, had submitted a bid of just over $97,000.
In other business City Administrator Matt Rehder informed the Council the city will be accepting resumes until October 9th for the chief of police position, and has received one resume already.
Current Chief Brent Schulte has resigned, effective September 25th, to take a job as an investigator with the Kansas Lottery.
Rehder says the goal is to appoint a new police chief by the end of the year.
