No Contest Plea Entered In Atchison Child Sex Case
09/16/2015

Charles Philips

(KAIR)--An Atchison man, accused of sex crimes against a minor child, has entered into a plea agreement, canceling a jury trial that had been set for this week.

37-year-old Charles Philips had originally entered a plea of not guilty in July to six counts-including one count of rape, three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, one count of aggravated sodomy, and one count of  criminal sodomy.   However, he agreed last week to plead no contest to two counts of rape.

Sentencing has been set for October 19th.

Philips was arrested in January after a police investigation showed that he had allegedly sexually abused the female victim multiple times over a three year period, starting in the fall of 2011, when she was 11-years-old.
