Desiderio Hernandez

(KLZA)--A 34-year-old Falls City Man, accused of the August shooting death of his cousin, was bound over to Richardson County District Court Wednesday.

Desiderio Hernandez appeared in a Richardson County courtroom  for a preliminary hearing, and was bound over on amended felony charges of first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Arraignment is set for  the morning of September 29th.

Nebraska State Patrol Investigator Cory Townsend testified that Hernandez, during a videotaped interview following his arrest in Horton, Kansas on August 6th, admitted he shot 31-year-old Joseph Debella Jr. with a gun Debella owned.

The shooting occurred on the night of August 4th in the basement of a home at 1418 Morton Street in Falls City.  Townsend told the Court that Hernandez, in the interview, said he and Debella were smoking methamphetamine and that Hernandez picked up a .22-caliber revolver and shot Debella. Transported for hospitalized treatment, he died 8 days later after being removed from life support.

Special Richardson County Deputy Attorney Corey O’Brien, with the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office, represented the State during the hearing.
