(KAIR)--Colder weather is right around the corner and the Atchison Salvation Army is working to make sure that everyone can stay warm during the winter months.
County Coordinator Kim Bottorff says the organization is collecting both coats and shoes for anyone who may need them, and “the shoe drive is kind of a fund raiser for us. We will collect shoes, we will keep the shoes that can be used in the community, the rest of the shoes are donated to an organization that then sends them overseas, so it's kind of a duel purpose drive on the shoes. Winter coats...we are collecting winter coats to keep here in our community. We will turn around and do a winter coat distribution.”
Bottorff says that this is the perfect time of year for people to consider donating as “people are having garage sales and different things going on. We understand now is a good time. School has started, they have gotten new clothes. The kids are getting new coats, so we really would appreciate them bringing in their gently used old ones. We will take any coat, jacket, hoodie, any of that.”
Bottorff adds that hats and gloves will also be accepted.
The Atchison Salvation Army will be accepting donations daily from 9:00am-1:00 at the Salvation Army building, located at 926 Commercial Street. The coat distribution will be held during the same hours on November 11th.
