(KAIR)--The Atchison County Sheriff's Department has made an arrest in connection with the theft of several firearms from a rural Atchison home earlier this month.
Undersheriff Joe Butner says it happened after the victim reported seeing the guns posted for sale on a local Facebook page. The posting was allegedly made by his 20-year-old nephew, Atchison resident Jesse Ellis. Ellis was interviewed, and taken into custody late Sunday morning.
However, Butner says the stolen firearms remain missing. “The Sheriff's Office is very concerned at the fact that there are guns reported stolen and they're still out in the community and that we haven't recovered any yet,” Butner tells MSC News. “Anytime there's firearms involved in a theft it does put everybody on notice because we don't know where the guns are going, we don't know who's receiving them and for what reason, so it does make us very concerned.”
Ellis was booked into the Atchison County Jail on charges including burglary and theft. His bond has been set at $20,000.
