Falls City Shooting Victim Dies

(KLZA)--The 31-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound in Falls City earlier this month has died. 

MSC News has confirmed that Joseph Debella Jr. died Thursday, August 13th following a hospital stay in Lincoln. 

Debella, of Falls City, was found in the basement of a home at  1418 Morton Street on August 5th with a gunshot wound to the head. 

34-year-old Desiderio Hernandez of Falls City is currently in the Richardson County Jail charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Amended charges are likely to be filed against Hernandez who is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Richardson County Court on August 24th. 

Hernandez was arrested early August 6th following a nearly seven-hour standoff at a residence in Horton, Kansas.

Two other men have also been charged in the case. 29-year-old John Hall and 19-year-old Brett Winters are accused of tampering with evidence at the residence where the shooting occurred.

Hernandez was sentenced to intensive supervised probation and a work ethic camp in Richardson County District Court in 2013 on a felony charge of assault in the first degree.  He was originally charged with second degree murder for cutting the throat of another man in Falls City.
