USD 115 Board Adopts 2015-16 Budget
08/17/2015

(KMZA)--The Nemaha Central USD 115 Board of Education has adopted a 2015-16 budget that contains a slight decrease in the property tax levy.

The Board took the action during their meeting last week following a hearing drawing no public comment.

Under the budget, the property tax levy will drop by .4 mill over a year ago.
The district will collect $2.7 million in tax revenue, up nearly $227,000 from last year due to an increase in the district’s assessed valuation.

It’s the first year of existence without the financial incentives given district’s that consolidate.

In other business, Nemaha Central High School Principal Pat McKernan gave the Board a presentation on a company that provides on-line curriculum for schools.

McKernan said the high school is already using several providers for on-line curriculum that provides courses for make-up credit, courses not offered at the high school, advance placement courses and ACT prep courses for students.

He told the Board he would like to consolidate the source for the courses by using the Edgenuity program based in Kansas.  McKernan said the program also has a curriculum that would allow teachers to have more control over student’s daily work.

The cost is $8,800 for a year’s service of up to 20 courses and would allow up to ten students at a time to access courses. Superintendent Darrel Kohlman said that student’s would be paying for their own courses, and most of the money would be re-cooped.

The Board approved use of the Edgenuity program.
