(KNZA)--Brown County Rural Water District #2 has submitted a new petition for the annexation of property in the northeastern portion of the county into it’s District in order to provide water service.
Representatives of the Water District met with the County Commission this week to discuss the petition, which was submitted August 6th to the County Clerk's office.
Water District officials say the petition contained 196 signatures, which is more than the number required. The petition required the signatures of 50 percent of the 372 property owners in the affected area.
The Water District had originally submitted a petition last month for the annexation, but it was determined to be faulty by County Attorney Kevin Hill because it didn’t comply with state statue.
As a result, a new petition was drafted and re-circulated following some revisions suggested by Hill.
Hill says state statue requires the Commission set a public hearing on the petition within 30 days of its filing. The Commission set the hearing for the morning of August 31st at 8:15.
The Water District was contacted about five years ago by several landowners in the northeast portion of the county about the District providing them with water service.
