(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission has approved an increase for the counties two Meals-on-Wheels providers.
The Commission voted unanimously Monday to provide an additional 25 cents per meal to both the Mission Village Living Center in Horton and Hiawatha Community Hospital, effective January 1st, 2016.
Patricia Raasch with the Mission Village Living Center, formerly the Tri-County Manor, requested the increase. Raasch said they have received the same amount since 2012.
Currently, Horton gets $1.05 a meal and Hiawatha gets 80 cents per meal. In addition, the two providers are paid for mileage.
The price paid by seniors for the meals will remain the same--$2.70 a meal. Commissioners said they didn’t want to increase the price for consumers.
Lori Gray, with Services for the Elderly, said an average of 691 meals are currently provided per month in the Hiawatha area and an average of 350 a month in the Horton area.
