(KNZA)--A pilot survives a late Friday morning crash in Jackson County.
It happened when a crop duster crashed shortly before the noon hour. The Kansas Highway Patrol identifies the pilot as 28-year-old Axtell resident Curt Strathman.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says Strathman was able to free himself from the wreckage after the plane went down two miles east of Emmett. Morse says Strathman was initially treated by Pottawatomie County EMS, and the Patrol says he received further treatment at an area hospital.
Morse says the crop duster was apparently working on behalf of Nemaha County Co-op, believed to be applying chemicals to a cornfield east of the crash location.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is heading up the initial investigation, on behalf of the FFA.
The Sheriff's Office, and the Hoyt and Pottawatomie Fire Departments, all provided assistance at the scene.
