(KNZA )--Several area northeast Kansas communities are among 49 communities that will share more than $13 million in Community Development Block Grant funding.
The Kansas Department of Commerce announced Wednesday that Hiawatha, Horton, Frankfort, the Lakewood Hills Improvement District in Jefferson County and the city of Olsburg are among those awarded federal grants during a special round of grant funding.
Hiawatha will receive a just over $318,000 grant to help fund improvements to Bruning Park. The city will provide nearly $32,000 in matching funds.
Horton will receive a more than $321,000 grant to make sidewalk improvements in the downtown area. The city will contribute just over $32,000 in matching funds.
Frankfort has been awarded a more than $290,000 grant to construct a new storm shelter and make sidewalk and park improvements. The Marshall County community will provide just over $29,000 in matching funds.
The Lakewood Hills Improvement District in Jefferson County will receive a $150,000 grant to make playground and park improvements. The Improvement District will contribute just over $16,000 in matching funds.
And the Pottawatomie County community of Olsburg has been awarded a just over $157,000 grant to make sidewalk and park improvements. The city will provide just over $17,000 in matching funds.
