Tecumseh Receives $5-Million Grant
07/06/2015

TECUMSEH, Neb. (AP) - The city of Tecumseh is using a $5 million community development grant from the state to renovate and preserve its town square.

In 2010, the city applied for funding to upgrade the utilities and infrastructure in the downtown area near the Johnson County Courthouse. But Mayor William Montz Sr. says the city had to demonstrate that it's a "leadership community" before the Nebraska Department of Economic Development would award the grant.

Montz tells the Beatrice Daily Sun that city officials stepped up and were able to fulfill all of the requirements. The grant was approved shortly after an inspection by the department.

Montz says the money will be used to repair and replace failing infrastructures, and then to improve streetscaping, wayfinding and facades.
