Alzheimers Could Be on The Rise
06/27/2015

(NRN)-- The Baby Boom generation is getting older and experts say there will be an epidemic of dementia.

Kathie Bickerstaff is with the Nebraska Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association says the early signs to look for include forgetting and misplacing things or the decision making process isn't working right. Family members most often notice something is wrong when an elderly person starts misplacing things or making odd decisions. She says getting lost is a big problem. The Alzheimers Association recommends GPS tracking devices and medical alert jewelry.

It is estimated that by the age of 85, fifty-percent will have some form of dementia. Bickerstaff says they also recommend changing and adding locks on doors. She says never lock a person with dementia inside a house to keep them from wandering as that could lead to other dangers. For more tips and resources contact the Alzheimer's Association.
