Seneca Fire Dept to Celebrate 125 Years
06/25/2015

(KNZA)--The Seneca Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate it’s 125th anniversary this weekend.

Volunteer firefighter Dale Olberding says a full-day of activities is planned Saturday, beginning with a breakfast from 7 to 10 at the fire station and open house from 8 to noon.   There will be a 5K fun run at 9.

A parade of fire apparatus begins at 1:30 in the afternoon starting at 3rd and Main and traveling west.  The Kansas City Marching Corbas, who performed for the department’s 100th anniversary, will return for the parade.

Olberding says activities will shift to the Seneca City Park beginning at 3:30 in the afternoon.  He says there will be kids games—including a bounce house, mechanical bull and 22-foot “screaming” slide. If weather allows, hot air balloon rides will be given as well.

Entertainment will be provided Saturday evening beginning at 6 with the Tim Strathman Band performing followed by the Jared Daniels band, a country music group from Nashville with Kansas roots.

Sunday will see firefighter competitions in the park beginning at 11.  Department members will match skills in handling hoses and nozzles and other fire fighting tasks.

A brochure detailing the activities planned can be viewed on the Seneca Chamber of Commerce web site under events.
