(KAIR)--An architect will be hired to design plans for the new restroom facilities in the Atchison city shop.
That, after City Commissioners voted 4-1 for the move during Monday's meeting.
City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont says there was an option to have the project designed by city staff. He says that “we had recommended that we move forward designing that project in house, but they had some questions and concerns about that, and so we are fine moving forward having an archetect doing that design process. Some of the current concerns had to do with the level of detail that our staff can put together internally. I think there was more of a level of comfort with a more traditional bidding process, and that being a design, bid, build...it's a very compartmentalized bid process, provides a lot of specifics to contractors, and contractors like it better.”
Pregont says he expects plans to be done in the next few weeks, and bids will go out shortly after. The entire project should be completed by late summer or early fall of this year.
Commissioner David Hausman cast the lone no vote.
