(KLZA)-- The Humboldt-Table Rock –Steinauer School Board approved the hiring of three new teachers this week. Mandy Bowen will move from part-time to full-time Special Education teacher. Cecelia Francis will also work as a Special Education teacher and Kari Case has been hired as an upper elementary teacher.
Two parents asked the Board to consider starting up a softball program this fall for HTRS. Previously HTRS was in a softball co-op with Auburn, which Auburn chose not to renew. After discussing a co-op with Johnson County Central, their Board voted to discontinue their softball program. The parents said they had nine girls that wanted to play. The Board asked them to present names and it could be discussed. There is a time crunch to have a team this fall with no coach, no schedule and the Nebraska School Activities Association requires everything be finalized by July 1.
Superintendent Clint Kimbrough updated the Board on the fire damage to a shop building at the Table Rock site. Cleanup repairing damage will have a price tag in excess of $40,000. Kimbrough also updated the Board members on two school vans damaged in a chain-reaction wreck in Omaha during the State Track Meet. One of the vans was totaled and the other sustained an estimated $7,000 in damage. Kimbrough expects to receive about $7,000 for the van totaled. No one was injured in the wreck.
The HTRS Board did approve increasing breakfast and lunch prices 10-cents across the board for the 2015-16 school year. Also approved was a proposal allowing staff members to donate sick days to another staff member.
A plan to tuck-point the southeast corner of the school building at Humboldt was also approved at a cost of approximately $12,000. Work on the addition to the north side of the Humboldt building is continuing.
