Hiawatha Elementary Preparing for Pilot Program
06/09/2015

(KNZA)--Hiawatha Elementary School is among two Kansas schools preparing for participation in the Kansas A+ pilot program, which is designed to put the arts at the center of the educational model.

Teachers from Hiawatha Elementary and Cheney High School will take part in professional development training at Emporia State University this week, Tuesday through Thursday, in preparation for the pilot program.

The Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission and the Kansas Alliance for the Arts in Education selected Hiawatha and Cheney to implement the A+ pilot program for the 2015-2016 school year.

The multi-state, research-based A+ model supports the development of creative schools and successfully uses the arts as a catalyst for learning.

The Kansas organizations are working with Oklahoma A+ schools, a member of the A+ School National Consortium, in the development of the Kansas pilot project.
