(KAIR)--An Atchison couple, convicted of taking financial advantage of a dependent family member, has been sentenced to probation in the case.
47-year-old Dennis Thummel and his 42-year-old wife, Nancy Thummel, appeared in Atchison County District Court Monday afternoon to learn their fate.
Dennis Thummel was sentenced to two years of supervised probation on charges including three counts of mistreatment of a dependent adult, three counts of theft, and one count of conspiracy to commit theft. Judge Martin Asher warned him that he would be facing thirty months in prison on the charges if he violated the terms of his probation.
Nancy Thummel was also sentenced to two years of supervised probation on one count of conspiracy to commit theft. If she violates probation, she will face twelve months in prison.
The couple was also ordered to pay approximately $308,000 in restitution.
The Thummels were arrested in March of last year after a police investigation showed that they had been taking financial advantage of a 24-year-old live in family member.
