Click It or Ticket Campaign Completed
06/03/2015

(KNZA)--During the Click It or Ticket Campaign just completed, the Hiawatha Police Department conducted overtime saturation patrols to aggressively enforce Kansas occupant restraint, texting, impaired driving, and other traffic laws.

During the campaign, Police Chief John Defore said officers wrote 79 safety belt citations, 2 child restraint citations, 2 DUI citations, 11 other citations and made arrests for offenses such as driving while suspended or no proof of insurance.  Defore says a total of 83 vehicle stops were made during the campaign.

According to Chief Defore, “Stops and tickets are issued as a result of our Zero Tolerance policy.  If you were stopped, you, hopefully, wear seatbelt now as a result.  If so, we have made the roads a little safer for you and those you share the road with.  We will continue to do that because, while the Click It or Ticket campaign may be over, traffic enforcement never is.”

Click It or Ticket was supported by a grant to the Hiawatha Police Department from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
