Atchison Looks At City Shop Improvements
06/02/2015

(KAIR)--The city of Atchison is looking to improve an important part of their city shop.

City Commissioners are considering an upgrade to the shop's male restrooms, and were able to take a tour Monday afternoon of the facility to get a first hand look at the current conditions.

City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont says an upgrade is needed. “We have a single user men's restroom, meaning only one person can use it at a time, which is particularly difficult. Year round, we have about thirty-five men that work at that facility and in the summer months, when we load up on some summer help, that number is usually closer to forty-five or fifty. So it makes it difficult in terms of efficiency for us to get people in and out of the restroom in a reasonable amount of time.”

Pregont adds that staff has already put together an improvement plan. He says that “what we are looking to do is to scope together a small addition to our city shop that is about a fourteen by fourteen foot restroom that would include two stalls, two urinals, two sinks, and the main, ADA compliant stall would also include an emergency shower, which we currently do not have. That would be to service employees who got into an excessive amount of sewage or have come into contact with chemicals or have burns or things like that.”

Commissioners took no action on the project Monday, and while the project has not been put out to bid yet, Pregont says that should happen in the near future.
