(KNZA)--Only minimal damage is reported following the heavy thunderstorms that rolled through Brown County on Memorial Day.
Sheriff John Merchant says a number of roads around Hiawatha remain under water in low spots, and has received several reports of vehicles stalling while attempting to drive through flooded roadways.
Authorities remind motorists to not attempt driving through standing water due to the possibility of drowning.
Merchant says baseball sized hail also fell in isolated areas as the storms rolled through. Extreme lightning also accompanied the thunderstorms, and is suspected as the likely cause of a near 4-hour power outage in Hiawatha and surrounding communities.
In Doniphan County, torrential rains fell as the storms rolled through, causing mudslides from the bluffs along portions of K-7 Highway. Following an overnight closure from White Cloud to the Kansas/Nebraska state line, that stretch of the highway reopened late Tuesday morning.
A Flood Warning has been issued for Doniphan County from 3:00 Tuesday afternoon until 1:00 Thursday morning.
