(KAIR)--A plea has been entered in the case of an Atchison man accused of child abuse.
34-year-old Christopher McNeal appeared in Atchison County District Court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing. However, before the hearing started, he requested to speak to his attorney privately, and left the courtroom. When he returned a few moments later, he entered a no contest plea to one count of abuse of a child.
Sentencing has been set for June 22nd.
County Attorney Jerry Kuckelman says McNeal is facing a sentence of 31 months to 130 months in prison.
McNeal was arrested in February in Clay County, Missouri after an Atchison Police Department investigation determined that he had caused serious injuries to the head and abdomen of a 2-year-old child.
