(KNZA)--Brown County will re-apply for grant funds through the Kansas Department of Transportation for the replacement of a bridge on a county road about five miles northeast of Fairview.
The County Commission Monday signed an application seeking funding for the replacement of a bridge on Falcon Road over Mulberry Creek.
The county applied last year for funding to replace the bridge, but weren’t successful.
Engineer Tom Bennett with BG Consultants, of Manhattan, says $8 million is available through KDOT for the replacement of off-system bridges under 50 feet utilized by less than 50 vehicles per day.
If awarded, the funding would cover 80 percent of the construction cost with the county responsible for the remaining 20 percent.
Bennett said the county can submit multiple applications. Commissioners will talk with their road foremen to see if there are any bridges they want to seek funding for the replacement of.
Applications are due July 17th.
