(KNZA)--Familiar scam attempts have increased across Brown County.
That word from Brown County Sheriff John Merchant who says the so-called IRS scam has been attempted more than ten times in the last several days.
The caller tells the would be victim they represent the Internal Revenue Service, and if personal information, specifically a social security number, is not given a federal arrest warrant will be issued immediately.
Merchant says the familiar scam where a caller pretends to be a family member in trouble is also circulating again.
The caller, armed with the relative's personal information, makes a plea that money be wired to them.
Although it seems legitimate, and plays on the emotions, Merchant says the call is nothing more than a scam.
Instead of sending any money, simply hang up and contact the relative the caller claimed to be instead of falling victim.
