Problems Continue at Tecumseh Prison Early Monday Morning
TECUMSEH, Neb. (AP) - Smoke no longer can be seen coming from a southeast Nebraska prison that's at least partly under the control of inmates.
There have been no reports of any escapes from the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution. State troopers and sheriff's deputies were patrolling the exterior of the prison on Monday morning, allowing only prison staffers and other law enforcement officers to enter.
Smoke rose from two prison housing units on Sunday after the disturbance began around 2:30 p.m., when staff members tried to break up a large gathering of prisoners in front of a housing unit.
A prison spokesman said in a statement that two staff members have been assaulted and two prisoners were shot - one by a rubber bullet. The statement said all prison employees have been accounted for.
