(KAIR)--Atchison's Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge will be lit up in teal Thursday evening in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Debbie Pennell-Duncan, Executive Director of DOVES, says sexual assault is a problem that effects a significant amount of people. She says that “one in six American women have been a victim of an attempted or complete rape, ten percent of sexual assault victims are men, and seventy percent of all sexual assault victims are women. Sexual assault is one of the most unreported crimes in the country.”
Pennell-Duncan says that in addition to the bridge being lit up, DOVES will be doing a lot of outreach in the public, specifically in schools, to bring awareness to the issue of sexual assault.
