(KAIR)--Schweser's clothing store in Atchison will be closing it's doors for good soon.
Store Manager Jennifer Eaton confirmed with MSC news that the store is going out of business, and read a statement from Schweser's President Ty Smith regarding the closure. He says, “While it is always difficult to make a business decision that impacts our customers and employees, we are closing a select number of stores to position the entire company for future success. The stores that will be closing were chosen based on sales and profitability and we are truly grateful for our team in Atchison who have worked hard to grow the store, and we are thankful to the customers that have shopped with us during our years in Atchison. We understand the frustration in a community in losing retailer. We sincerely hope that the community will shop with us in our remaining days open.”
Eaton expressed sadness at the store's closing, saying she has enjoyed interacting with customers on a daily basis and that the store staff has really enjoyed working together.
Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce President Jacque Pregont says there was a community effort to keep the store open, when it almost closed three years ago, that was led by Roger Caudle. She adds that “obviously, we never want anyone to close, we hate the whole idea of anyone closing their doors, it's just really sad. I think it's too bad that we were not supportive enough to keep them here.”
Eaton says no final date has been set for the store's closing.
