(KLZA)-- A former southeast Nebraska teacher and referee has been sentenced to seven days in jail and fined $500 following his “no contest” plea to two counts of procuring alcohol for minors.
42-year-old Steven Nolte, of Tecumseh, was a teacher at the Johnson County Central Public Schools and worked as a sports referee when the events occurred. Nolte appeared in Johnson County Court Wednesday.
He was accused of purchasing a bottle of alcohol for a 16-year-old female student in May of 2014 and for purchasing a bottle of alcohol for a 19-year-old female who was a former student in January of this year.
Nolte was arrested in February following an investigation by the Johnson County Central Public Schools and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. Nolte resigned from his teaching position as well as from refereeing sporting events.
According to a new release from Johnson County Attorney Julie D. Smith, Nolte may also face revocation or suspension of his teaching license at a state level.
