Unemployment Rates Released for Area NEK Counties

(MSC News)-- The latest unemployment rates for area northeast Kansas counties contain mixed news.

According to figures released Friday by the Kansas Department of Labor, unemployment was up in Atchison, Brown and Doniphan counties in March compared to February.  Jackson, Jefferson, Leavenworth, Marshall and Pottawatomie Counties saw a drop in their jobless rates, while Nemaha County’s unemployment rate held steady.

Atchison County had the highest unemployment rate at 6.3 percent, while Nemaha County had the lowest at 2.7 percent.

Brown County’s jobless rate in March was 4.4 percent; Doniphan, 4.9 percent; Jackson, 4 percent; Jefferson, 4.7 percent; Leavenworth, 4.8 percent; Marshall, 2.9 percent; and Pottawatomie, 3.8 percent. 

All the figures were down from March last year.

Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in March.  That’s unchanged from February and down from 4.6 percent in March 2014.
