(KAIR)--The search is on for the person accused of being involved in a short Atchison area vehicle chase Monday afternoon.
Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie says the pursuit began just before 2:00 when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of 278th Road and John Street. The driver took off before the stop could be made, and the deputy gave chase, but lost the suspect near U Street.
The suspect vehicle traveled east through the city, with the driver running a stop sign at the intersection of Fifth Street and U Street, nearly causing a wreck, leading to Laurie's decision to call off the pursuit.
The suspect vehicle was last seen heading south on River Road, crossing the Amelia Earhart Bridge.
Laurie says the driver is also a suspect in a possible Wathena burglary, with both the driver and vehicle caught on camera at a local business. However, it has not been determined if a burglary actually took place at that location, with the investigation continuing, and the search for the suspect and vehicle ongoing.
